This page shows the resultant pitches from all natural harmonics (up to the fourth harmonic, the highest recommended for standard orchestras) for violin, viola, cello and double bass. Note that for the third and fourth harmonic, there are two options for where to touch the string — the higher position, which is indicated using a harmonic circle, and the lower position, indicated using a touch-notation (diamond notehead). In general, the lower position (‘touch notation’) should be used unless a) the player was already playing in a high position or b) they are playing a melody in natural harmonics.
