Partial Forms is an hour-long auditory expedition for cello and electronics, resulting from a collaboration between acclaimed Canadian/New Zealand composer-cellist Nicholas Denton Protsack and New Zealand composer/sound artist Michael Norris. The work is conceived as a traversal of shifting terrains of sound and space, with its eight movements shaped by themes drawn from the natural landscapes and soundscapes of Aotearoa and Canada. With evocative titles such as Spectral Cascades, Tararua Mists and Braid, each movement invites the listener into a different world where nature and technology merge. From the harmonic cloudscapes of Cirrus Drift to the nocturnal coastal field recordings of Written in Sand and subterranean echoes of In the Refuge of a Cave, Partial Forms is a meditative and multisensory exploration of place and environment.
