PROGRAMME NOTE

Spectral Cascades takes its initial impulse from the visual and aural impressions of waterfalls, translated into spectral and textural musical processes. The work begins with a playful burbling of harmonics high up on the cello’s A string, a gesture that is refracted through the sinwaves of the electronics. These partials shimmer and gather momentum, until the harmonic field thickens and oscillates, with surging sonorities that expand both harmonically and dynamically. The once-delicate spectral threads become compressed and intensified, culminating in a dense cascading crescendo where cello and electronics fuse into a single, turbulent mass.
