The ‘Ars Moriendi’ (The Art of Dying) were two 15th-century texts giving advice to the dying soul in order to ascend to heaven. In this piece, the bass clarinets bridge the terrestrial with the celestial, and enter into a fleeting counterpoint of ideas between the sonically distinctive registers at either extreme of the instrument.
